Saturday in Seattle

Last weekend we drove to Seattle to meet some friends (Brenda & Andrew and their son Jared) from BC that we hadn't seen in over 9 years and to hang out together for the weekend.

We left early and arrived at the hotel in Seatac by 10:30 am.  After getting our bearings we set out to the waterfront and Pike's Place.

The Blue Angels were in town and doing an afternoon show, which created some artwork in the sky.

(Fuzzy - is this a heart or a B?)

(More artwork in the sky)

After an unremarkable dinner at the Old Spaghetti Factory we decided to go the Seattle Center.  Unfortunately the Pacific Science Center and Experience Music Project (EMP) were already closed.  Brad and I were quite disappointed as there is an AC/DC exhibit at the EMP and we are both huge fans.  I think it is on the list for when we return in a few weeks for the Ace Cafe sponsored Meet at the Ace - A Summer Shakedown vintage motorcycle festival at the LeMay America's Car Museum in Tacoma.

So, we wandered and took in the sights and enjoyed the warm evening.  I don't think I'd ever seen the space needle in the daylight before.

We found an interesting squid sculpture called Parking Squid, by artist Susan Robb that was a cool bicycle rack.  It is a temporary sculpture on display until it finds it's forever home in the city's right-of-way.

(Troubadour couldn't resist)
As the sun set we watched the kids play in the International Fountain and listened to the music before heading back to the hotel to rest up for Sunday.

(Chilling to the music)
...... next up - Sunday in Seattle and we tour the USS Halsey.

    1. We may live close to Seattle but look at all the wonderful countries you can reach within a days drive/ferry, etc.

I'll trade you Seattle for Scotland........

  3. Very cool pictures! Looks like you had gorgeous weather. I love the shot of Brad striking a pose, but I hate that you said it that way because now Madonna's Vogue is stuck in my head! Squid surfing shot is funny. Brenda looks like a kid. That can't possibly be her son!

    1. We lucked out with the great weather.

Thanks for the ear worm, now I have that song in my head, lol.

Brenda is just 4 years younger than I am. I hadn't seen her since she was in her 20's as she hasn't aged a bit. Hard to believe Jared just turned 12. Brenda put up a picture on facebook of Brad, Jared and I, and he is as tall as Brad and taller than I am. Going to be tall just like his dad Andrew.

Loved that Squid Surfing Troubadour photo. Are you sure you are allowed to climb onto that sculpture ? SEE, I told you he was Goofy !

You must have left at 5am to get there that early. Hope you had a good visit with your friends

    1. I am pretty sure climbing on the structure was okay. It is steel and made to connect 8 bikes to the racks. I am sure he wasn't the first one to go squid surfing.

We were up at 5 am but we didn't get out of the house until almost 6:30. 4 hours - a new record, but that was only to Seatac not downtown Seattle.

  6. Squid surfing, a new extreme sport! Wonderful pictures especially the sun on the Space Needle. Too bad the EMP was closed. I must admit that I enjoy visiting Seattle though I wouldn't enjoy it much on a bike...

    1. Since it was a squid statue he couldn't resist - if only he had a helmet it would have made a funnier picture.

I don't think I'd like to navigate it on a bike either - too much traffic.

  7. Brad is on to something. Maybe squid surfing becomes a new olympic dicipline one day.

Seattle is always worth a visit (especially though, when the weather plays along).

    1. Oh wait, it always rains on the west coast. Or at least that is what we tell people so they don't move here, lol.

This just happens to be during the two dry months of the year July/August and occasionally September.

  9. Fun times!
I love Seattle. Haven't been there since 2001 and that was just a quick trip passing through. So much to see and do. Nice to spend the time with old friends too!

    1. Wow that was a while ago. It might have changed a little since then but the Space Needle is still there.

  10. I'm with Sonja - I think Brad is onto something. Giant squid surfing for the next Olympic games. Great photos - beautiful blue skies. I forgot about Seattle and the Space Needle, dam, does that mean I might have to cross those mountains one more time!

    1. You just might have to cross them again. A few more times and it will be easy peasy and you'll start to look forward to them.
