2013 Oregon Vintage Motorcycle Show

Last weekend was the annual OVM - Oregon Vintage Motorcycle Show and Swap Meet.  This years marque was Suzuki.  Since this is held within a few blocks of our house we walked rather than rode to the show.

Although it didn't rain while we were there, ominous clouds threatened from the Southwest throughout the day.

I've heard opinions to the contrary since Sunday, but I didn't feel that this show was as big as it was in years past.  Here are some highlights from the swap meet, the show, and the parking lot.

THE SWAP MEET

The Hodaka riding group were set up in the swap meet area, though the bikes were not for sale.

THE SHOW

(1927 Thomann - single cyl, 250 cc, magneto for ignition, 3-speed lever shift)

(1956 Triumph T-110 Tiger, 650 cc - owner's blog LINK)

(I was enjoying the reflection of the clouds)
(Velocette L.e.)

(1968 Suzuki B105P, 120 cc, early trail bike)

(1980 Suzuki GS1000S, Wes Cooley special imported in 1979 and 1980 only)

(1969 Kawasaki Mach III, 500 cc, two stroke)

(1982 Honda MB5, 50 cc)

(1971 Honda QA50, 50 cc mini bike)

(1970 Lil Indian 450, 3 hp)

(1941 Indian Sport Scout, 45 ci)
(We see this bad boy near campus quite often, it gets ridden a lot)

THE PARKING LOT

All in all it was a good show and always worth attending.  There is nothing wrong with looking at shiny bikes on a cloudy Spring afternoon.

  1. Some pretty interesting stuff at the show. But the scooter with the rotor was a bit extreme but I can see that in any college town.

    So how went the 5K?

    1. That "Mad Max" scooter get slot of attention, but I think that is one of the reasons he did that.

The 5k was great and we did better that I thought. Started off jogging and we didn't slow to a fast walk until almost the half way turn around point. Only 3 quick sections of walking. I think we finished in 40 minutes. Not fabulous, but good for us.

Then we took the dogs down to the beach to let them play, they hadn't run enough. Stairs going down were a bit funny on our jelly legs, coming back up was easier. It was a good day.

  2. Awesome pics! I love the old Honda's, heck I love old bikes of any make. I think the 'battle' scooter is pretty nifty, I wonder if Deb of Ruckus Scooter Love would like that one for her ride stable ;)

    1. That battle scooter would sure make a rukus wouldn't it?

It is always fun looking at the 'vintage' bikes? Some of those bikes were from we were kids, does that make us vintage too?

  3. I could warm up to one of those Honda C70's. They look really cute.

    1. My mom had a Trail 90 or 125 that looked the same. First bike I ever rode on the back of.

sure looks like a lot of vintage bikes there. It was nice to be able to walk for a change. I like to look at old technology but I am not sure I want to own one. I used to have a collector scooter and a 60's muscle car and I just don't want to deal with them anymore. I always wanted to take my Firebird convertible on a Vacation somewhere but with drum brakes I was always worried that I would break down somewhere and be stranded. Plus I would have to start it all the time to keep it running. I don't miss it

    1. I think if the old technology was restored it would be easier to own, but if it hasn't been restored a little harder. Better if it runs though. Some of the bikes are ridden and some are for show I am sure.

    1. Hey, Sublime Green was a Mopar color. That is vintage too.

I need to catch up on your blog, but when I do it always makes we want to visit Florida.

  6. Perfect way to spend a Sunday. Ta for sharing Brandy, I really enjoy looking at those kinds of bikes, sadly some of them brought on a sense of nostalgia, I really don't feel old enough to remember when vintage was new but apparently I am :D

It still makes me want to do up my own old bike, one day the right one will come along i'm sure.

    1. Sad when vintage means when we were kids.

The Honda Trail bikes remind me of my early years and riding on one behind my Mom. She made a cushion for the rack.

  7. We been having days of wonderful but ominous looking clouds, too.

I really know so little about the history of motorcycles. I had to google Hodaka to find out about them. Riding a motorcycle or scooter couldn't have been farther from my head if I'd tried to ignore the scene on purpose. Oh well.

    The military scooter thing is...interesting.

    1. I am enjoying the pictures of your ominous clouds too.

I hadn't heard of Hodaka until we saw them at the show last year I think. I guess I should have put a link in. I thought it was cool that the headquarters were in Oregon.

  8. Ok...do all those fans and rotors work on that scooter? Though I am glad it is enjoyed. :) Did anything manage to follow you home?

    1. Nothing managed to follow us home. Four is enough for now.

I wasn't sure about the fans and rotors on the scooter so I asked Brad and he says he believes it is more of a rolling art project and doesn't think they are operational.

    1. There were some pretty nice Hondas there. We see the Trail 90's and such come up on Craigslist quite a bit.

  10. Some very nice vintage machines there - and in the parking lot!

    1. I know right.

The Honda CX 500 and CX 650 were too of my favorites and they were in the parking lot.

  11. Love this! Some nice vintage bikes...love those CX models. I enjoy going to vintage shows. there's one held every year just west of Austin, but I haven't had a chance to attend for a couple of years.

    1. I too enjoy the vintage models. We try to go to this one every year if we don't have plans. Hard not to go when it is only a few blocks from our house.

  12. A fantastic mix of nice, very nice, old machines. From the looks of things, my yellow Helix shares some lineage with Mad Max. We've got a Hodaka fan in our little group; the Oregon origins were just one more thing that made them stand out from the rest.

    1. I didn't even know the Hodakas were from Oregon until I googled them, but now it makes sense why they had such a big booth at the show.

  13. What a selection to choose from - the rocket-launcher scooter was the most customized and I cannot imagine all the hours that went in to these "retro" bikes that I grew up with too.

You are doing marathons now? Right on, those are not for the faint of heart, good on you...

    1. No marathons for me, the lungs wouldn't take it. I have been doing a few 5k fun runs with SpartanBabe though.

I am enjoying them. Not sure when the next one will be, she does a lot more of them than I do. I join in on the ones that take place on the weekends hubby is teaching.
