Get Your Spring On - Blog Challenge

Dar, of Princess Scooterpie fame, issued a blog challenge yesterday.  In her words:

"This challenge is to post a picture on your blog of any sign of spring where you live -
yup I know that a lot of you are still buried under snow & sub zero temps, but amongst all the freezing cold there has to be a sign of spring somewhere! Be creative, it doesn't have to be a pic
of flowers or buds, but something that represents the coming spring to you."

You can find her original post by following this ---->LINK.

Today I strolled through our yard and found a few sights that signal Spring is fast approaching (only 3 more weeks away).  Normally Troubadour wandering the yard with a shovel in his hand transplanting this and that is sign enough for me, but I decided to spare him having his picture in this post, however creative it might have been.

A few short weeks ago the landscape looked like the following picture:

Who knew that hiding under all that snow waiting for warmer weather was green grass and a bunch of daffodils in our front yard......

And that the Viburnum Dawn in the backyard was ready to burst forth with its pink blooms.  They aren't quite open yet, but they are ready.

So........what shouts Spring in your part of the world?  Remember, if you participate please comment on Dar's original challenge post too and let her know.

Wow ! You've got a lot of "signs" of Spring where you are. I've been busy driving all over the place snapping photos but none of Spring. We've got a snow warning for tonight and tomorrow so we should awake to a white blanket in the morning

    1. Did I mention the lawn needs mowing too? I think our spring is pretty much on time this year even with the snow we had.

  2. No more snow donuts in the yard. But nice daffodils!

  3. Beautiful! I think part of me is so done with this draggy winter that I am desperate to see spring come. I am tired of the gloom and gray. Your daffs are beautiful and the pinky coloured flowers promise a burst of beautiful! Thanks Brandy!

    1. With our two bouts of snow it has been an odd winter for us and to have temperatures down to 0˚F was really rare. I am happy to see things warm up and the rains return.

Sure the grey skies are annoying, but we just up our Vitamin D to ward off any Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD). Our family doctor says most people in the PNW are all Vitamin D deficient because of our grey skies in the winter. 5,000 iu per day keeps us happy.

  4. Interesting, that the vegetation in the Black Forest seems so similar to the Pacific West Coast. We have daffodils and this pink blooming stuff in our backyard.

    1. I am glad they are so similar so that you don't miss BC quite so much.

I remember in BC April was cancer awareness month and they'd sell daffodils to raise money. Down here the daffodils will be done within a few weeks.

Driving around yesterday I saw some red winter camelias blooming too but didn't have the camera with me.

  5. I have to admit that I do miss daffodils. They always were the first sign of the approaching spring for me when I lived in Pennsylvania. Now, living in Florida, we just get different shades of green.

    1. You can plant some bulbs in a pot indoors in October, hide them in a dark closet or garage until late January, then bring them out to the light and water them and you should have your own sign of spring before too long, especially with your temperatures.

Different shades of green can be okay, we get that all fall while it is raining. We don't seem to have 4 seasons here. We seem to have the 8-9 month rain season and then a dry summer. Rare for us to have snow in winter.

  6. Those are truly signs of spring. Brings back good memories of Oregon :^) Speaking of- your pollen index should have signs of life by now, too!

    1. I was surprised when the snow melted and the daffodils were already up. Didn't know they were hiding under there.

The pollen index will go up soon, but it has to stop raining first I think. In the front yard our yews are blooming little tiny blooms and if you shake the bush or brush up against it the pollen billows out like smoke. It is pretty cool.

    1. It is nice to see the burst of color start to appear. And so quickly after the snow melted too. Our temps have been in the 50's with lows in the 40's F, so we've been very lucky the last few weeks.

  8. Your spring is there now. Ours, unfortunately, is still many weeks away! I just looked at the weather history for our area and am pleased with what I saw... warmer temps are ahead!

    1. Glad warmer temps are ahead. I wonder how many more weeks before your snow melts for the last time.

  9. Signs of spring? The health department just issued a frostbite advisory that will apply from today (Sunday) through to Thursday! There are NO signs of spring here, and it may be a while yet.

    1. Yikes. Sure hope your weather gets better soon. Been a bad winter for the mid-west and east coast.

We woke to 49˚F (9.44˚C) and more rain this morning. At least after the cold and snow we don't mind the rain, as it is much warmer.

  10. My first reaction was that those photos were of LAST year's version of Spring. Spring is only a few weeks away, our Daylight Savings Time even closer. Old Man Winter doesn't seem to be the least bit threatened around here.

    Thanks for the color Brandy!

    1. With Daylight Savings Time getting closer I am not looking forward to getting up at 4 am only to have it seem like 3 am still. Yawn.

We are lucky that the snow has melted and the bulbs are bursting forth with color. Hopefully we don't get an April freak snow storm like we did a few years ago.

  11. Oh, my, how delightful! There is nothing like the joyous burst of a daffodil's color to make my spirit soar!

I will now have to go to the grocery across the street and hang out in the flower shop to experience that first hand.

We are no wheres near to having your signs of spring...enjoyed seeing it though, even if not in my own world! LOL

    1. I keep seeing the blooms out the living room window and they make me smile.

Sure wish spring would arrive for you. You can tell spring is here because it is raining. Oh wait, it does that in fall and winter too. Well, rain is nature's way of letting us know it isn't summer yet.
