These Boots

I have always found it a challenge to find ladies riding boots for sale locally.  The last two pairs I've ordered have been off the internet.  Luckily they have fit, even buying sight unseen. I blogged about my frustrations HERE over 4 years and those two pairs of boots ago.

I have been searching for off road boots for well over a month.  We'd been to motorcycle shops in several towns and hadn't found anything.

The Saturday before last we finally found ladies off road boots at Cycle Gear in Salem.  I tried on a pair and they fit, but there was one problem - they had entirely too much pink on them.  See Exhibit A below.  Of course they are available in black and white with no pink, but no one carries those in stock.

Now, that may not look like a lot of pink to you, but for me it was over the top.  So what's a girl to do? Well, if your feet are small enough you turn to boys boots.  I am lucky, in that my feet are fairly small for my height.  I tried on a Youth's 7 and they fit perfect.  They even had more toe room than the ladies.  And you know what?  No pink!  See Exhibit B below.

And.....they were $40 less than the ladies boots.  Bonus.  I was very happy to finally have some boots, and bought locally too.  I had Labor Day Monday off while Troubadour had to work so it gave me a chance to put them on and dance walk around the house a bit to test them out.  I've sat on the TW with them on and we may have to adjust the shift lever a smidgen, but I think they'll work just fine.

"These boots aren't made for walking, so that's not what they'll do........."

We have a few days off coming up and we are hoping to get in some road riding, dirt riding, and mountain bike riding.  Hopefully the weather will cooperate.  Half the State is still on fire.  With the fire danger elevated, all off road vehicles must carry either 1 gallon of water or a 2.5 lb fire extinguisher AND a shovel with an 8 inch blade and 26 inch handle.

There is a large fire to the south of us - LINK, and to the southeast and southwest of us.  This LINK has a satellite map of the western side of the State showing smoke from the fires.  Even here in Corvallis we had over an 80 acre fire Friday night about 3 miles northeast of our house. LINK.

Come on rain.  We just need a few days of rain with no lightning.

  1. Nice "snag!" I've turned to boys' sizes in the past, when living in the Northeast and in need of snow boots. Take care with all those fires in your area!

    1. In high school I used to wear boys sneakers all the time since they fit better and were cheaper.

  2. Good looking boots, I like snap/buckle concept vice velcro (which becomes unsticky after a while) or laceup.

    1. Thanks Dom. I too like the buckles on the boots. They have a little velcro around the calf, but not much.

  3. And don't forget you earn 76 cents an hour to my dollar to buy the forty dollar cheaper boots. some crap never changes.

    1. Well the boys boots were cheaper, the women's were the same price as the mens I think. But no, crap never changes.

  4. Why does it always to be pink? Even on ATV boots? Nice grab on the Youth ones.

I hope the fires will stay away from you guys. I'll send you some rain, we've had more than our share this year.

    1. I don't know how blue for boys and pink for girls ever started but it is annoying. I have a new nephew and you can't buy anything with kitties on it for him or even choo choo trains on girls clothes. So annoying.

Please send the rain, we really could use it. Luckily it has been cooling off at night, but the winds also come up and that doesn't help the fire fighting at all.

  5. Yep, it didn't look like much pink to me, but $40 for pink seems like quite the fashion statement! After a few days out on the trails that pink may had disappeared anyway.

    1. Not a lot of pink, but it is more or less my boycotting the stereotype of pink for girls. Although, I think Brad has more pink shirts than I do, lol.

  6. Now I have Nancy Sinatra singing away in my head about boots :) I was going to suggest a black sharpie! Nice score!

    1. I've had the song stuck in my head this last week as I've been drafting the blog post in my head.

  7. They look like a pretty nice boots. Lots of ankle support and protection though they look like they'd be uncomfortable to walk out in. But then again if you're dancing around the house in them...

    1. I was impressed with the quality when wearing them around the house. I don't think I had them on for more than about 10-15 minutes. There was a little dancing, but then I was the only one home. Felt like having ski boots on.

  8. That Corvallis fire was way too close for comfort ... wish I could send some rain your way (we're expecting a whole bunch more on Wed.) Nice boots ... and you can't beat saving $40 (though I wouldn't worry about pink on boots, a couple hours on a nice muddy trail and no more pink!)
Brandy - thinking way back when my 'beautiful' baby boys were tiny infants, bald with cherub faces and large blue eyes...I insisted on blue and denim just so I didn't have to explain 100 times a day ... "Nope, not a girl!" Even then, nobody noticed the blue! Must have been a mom with babies like mine who came up with the idea of pink and blue (for some reason gender matters to new moms and dads.)

    1. We just found out they've closed all our off highway vehicle areas. So much for playing in the dirt on vacation next week. Guess we will have to stick to the gravel roads on take the big bikes out. Send that rain now.

I can understand not wanting to have to announce the baby's sex all the time if people asked. My brother and sister-in-law didn't know the sex before little Max was born so they got a lot of neutral clothes and accessories before hand. He is 6 months old this month. A little cutie.

  9. Nice boots, and yep, they aren't made for walking :^)

I agree with Dom. I have the snap/buckle arrangement on my everyday boots. Works great and supports the area with the velcro.

    Have fun.

    1. Nope, not made for walking, or I hope I don't end up doing much walking in them. +1 to the buckles.

  11. Trobairitz,

SCORE! I've always thought moto-cross styled boots looked cool. Unfortunately they're not practical for around town or touring. I recently bought a pair of Sidi On-Road Gore-tex boots and I like them a lot.

Sorry to hear about the fire danger and the closing of the off road areas. I was really looking forward to seeing some pictures of dirty boots :-). Hope it rains soon...you'll just have to get your motorcycle fix with some on road touring. Ride Safe!

    Cheers,

    1. I would agree that they weren't practical for around town. I use my Sidi Livia Rain Boots when riding the street bike and they are comfy.

We were out on the mountain bikes getting dirty yesterday. No boots though - used sneakers for that. We'll get some street riding in and that will do until the rains return.

  12. I enjoyed your comment, "...entirely too much pink." I got it.

I tell myself I'm interested in function, not form...quality over aestetics, but I gotta have both.

Case in point: I had the most wonderful Joe Rocket jacket. It fit perfectly, was cool and loaded with protective features. The problem: it was purple. "Was" as I gave it away!

Glad you found some good boots at a good price. Now go have adventures in them!

    1. I know function comes first when it comes to gear, but if I can get function and frosting (fashion) then it is a win win. I understand why you gave your jacket away, sometimes we just can't wear it even if it fits.

  13. A little pink looks cool, I don't see a problem. The one you bought are nice looking boots, now where are the off-road photos?

    1. I think some guys are more accepting of pink than some of us girls breaking the stereotype. Maybe because you too are breaking the stereotype.

No off-roading in the boots yet, all our OHV areas are closed due to fire danger. They are also closing some mountain bike trails now, sigh. Come on rain.

  14. My blogger dashboard dropped your blog of the planet and I missed a couple of posts.
Mmmm shiney new boots looks good babe. I could just see you dancing around the kitchen hahahaha.
I don't think the pink would matter that much its only a wee bit pink.

    1. We are still hoping to get out at some point. Friday another fire started and is now up to 300 acres. It started a wee bit southeast of where we were hoping to ride at Brown's Camp OHV area. They're all still close BUT rain is hopefully returning next weekend.

Once fall hits we'll be swamped with rain and it will be so muddy we can't get out. Murphy's Law.
