For the last week or two I have been having troubles posting comments on peoples blogs. At first I thought it was just the blogs that had switched over to the new Blogger style, but I'm not so sure anymore.
After drafting a comment I type in the captcha and click preview. The preview will come up and when I click publish it reverts back and tells me my captcha does not match to please try again.
Sometimes I have to do this two or three times before my comment posts. It is really starting to perturb me.
At some point I thought it may have been my iPad correcting the captcha word. That in itself is a pain, but it is doing it on my iMac both at home and at the office.
Is anyone else having troubles posting comments or it just "the nut at the end of the wrench" so to speak?

me too...
ReplyDeleteGlad it isn't just me, but sorry you are having troubles too.
DeleteTrobairitz:
ReplyDeleteMe Three. I thought it was the new Blogger causing problems. Then I thought it was Windows7, sometimes the autosave gets frozen and you have to exit Explorer as it closes itself down. then I thought it was my 64 bit windows, rather than my older 32 bit windows. So many questions, so little answers.

Me four...... I don't have to worry about windows as I haven't used anything but a Mac product in over 10 years. I wouldn't even know how to at this point.
DeleteAnd I agree, so little answers.....
I'll go with option 2, i.e. "the nut at the end of the wrench", just because....
ReplyDeleteI have not had a problem with the captcha but have had problems with the text box when comments are inline and using mobile Safari (iPhone & iPad). But even then, only if I want to move the cursor and edit.
Ha, funny guy. Someone had to take that option, might as well be you.
DeleteGlad you haven't had troubles with the captcha. I find sometimes on the iPad it doesn't let me scroll the comment text box if the comment is long, that is frustrating. And right now the iPad won't let me click on the individual reply buttons under each comment. Maybe I need to plug it into the iMac and see if it updates.
I haven't lately, but I go through times when I have problems commenting. Not always the captcha, sometimes it's just weird little problems.
ReplyDeleteI gave up trying to figure out computers a long time ago. They're glitchy and fickle. Best to just play along...or get a big hammer...
Glad you haven't had any troubles lately. And I agree, computers are hard to figure out.
DeleteI like the big hammer idea, except then I'd need a big broom.
I usually only have troubles with the Microsoft programs I need to run.
I haven't had problems from my home computer. When I used to do comments from my work computer, I had problems very similar to what you are describing. I assumed it was an outdated browser issue. For various reasons, I haven't done comments from work for quite awhile now. I don't know if the problems remain or not.
ReplyDeleteInteresting that you only have troubles at work. I'll look into the browser.
DeleteI usually use Firefox to browse but blogger doesn't let me comment from it. I can type it and when I hit preview my comment disappears like I didn't type anything. It does that at work and at home. So when I comment I have to use Safari as a browser.
I was having problems also - switched over to Chrome and was okay, which must have made Explorer jealous because it's behaving once again. I hear you!!!
DeleteChrome seems to be working for everyone. And here I thought "Chrome don't get you home".
DeleteI think all the browsers just like to have random troubles to keep us on our toes.
I have problems with it from time to time. Don't know when was the last time I was able to post to KT Dids blog.
ReplyDeleteI think computers are just fickle creatures.
DeleteTrobairitz, I don't think I've ever had problems with my computer. My Iphone or Ipad is another kettle of fish. Editing typos is extremely tedious. Sometimes the Turing test (AKA captcha) refuses to cooperate. Bobskoot had some issues with the comment feature on my blog and suggested some tweaks in the design panel for comments. After making those changes, things seem to be OK for commenters on my blog. Hang in there, and do what I do, curse Bill Gates at least 25 times a day.
ReplyDeleteI agree that editing typos on the iPad is a pain. I don't have an iPhone so no issues there. What were the tweaks you made in the design panel for comments? Anything that might help here?
DeleteCursing Bill gates seems like a worthy cause, lol.
I had some problems too...Ironically when I started using CHROME it was all sorted.
ReplyDeleteGood luck, I know it annoyed the hell out of me.
No chrome here. Just Firefox and Safari.
DeleteI shall hang in there. I can be persistent.
as always - a day late and a dollar short with my comments. One day I will learn to read to the bottom.
DeletePersonally there are times when I like the big hammer and broom idea, just not today (obviously).
Some days we don't have time to read every single comment on the blogs we follow as there are so many. No worries.
DeleteI often have issues with a few Google products: Blogger, Youtube, Reader etc. It seems they all play up at the same time too. Running Chrome here as well.
ReplyDeleteIt is funny how we can go along with absolutely no troubles and then they all start acting up. I wonder if they do tweaks with their programming or something.
DeleteAs per Roger and Andrew, I recently had to switch to chrome as I was having multiple problems with IE9 including not being able to post comments, not being able to open peoples blogs it would start to open then go to a blank white screen, not being able to up load pictures to my blog. I had to clear the cache and cookies , sometimes it would work and others not....
ReplyDeleteClearing the cache and cookies sounds like a good idea. I shall try that too. Weird that it is happening on both iMacs and the damn iPad. I think it is just me, lol.
DeleteTroubadour feels it is because I click preview and if I went straight to publish it wouldn't be an issue. Might have to try that too and just up my proofreading skills to avoid typos without using preview
Ah, heck - just eat the cookies and they'll make you forget about the cache. I think it was a WWW hickup. (too many cookies)
Deletemmmmm cookies.........
DeleteI had that problem when I was using the new Blogger version. Then I changed to the old Blogger and not had any problems. I did a search of this in the Blogger forums and it seems this is much of the problem. I think that's where this problem is- with Blogger.
ReplyDeleteI attempted to use the new Blogger version but it was so different and I didn't have the time to get used to it so I went back right away.
DeleteI think you are correct that it is a Blogger issue.
Troubles seem to come and go. For a few weeks I wasn't able to even open Troubadours blog and I spent a few hours trying to work out why. Now, without me doing anything, it is working again. Previous problems with my own blog eventually resolved themselves. I never upgrade anything unless I have to - I am a firm believer in the 'if it ain't't broke, don't fix it' school of life.
ReplyDeleteI try not to update anything either. The 'if it ain't broke' adage is a good one.
DeleteWeird that you couldn't load Troubadour's blog. Glad it resolved itself.
With the new Blogger comments interface, I am however not able to move my cursor back to (say) correct a typo. If I try, the cursor locks in place and edits don't work. It is the same for both of your blogs.
ReplyDeleteI didn't even add the new Blogger interface it just magically appeared one day. I think because I have the comments embedded as opposed to a pop up.
DeleteI can't click reply to an individual comment on my iPad for some reason, but I can post a regular comment. Weird.
It seems to be a problem on the blogs that have enabled inline comments. Which is a cool feature. For example, Lori's blog is still the old format and I've never had a problem with comments. I've been trying alternative browsers on the iPhone and iPad but the problems really seem to come and go as Gary says.
ReplyDeleteIt is weird that the comment troubles are intermittent and also vary with different browsers. Ahhh..... computers, remember when we just had calculator troubles?
DeleteWhat! You were allowed to use calculators? They were banned for tests when i went to college as they were too expensive for most students to own. In high school, only one rich kid had one and she wasn't allowed to use it...
DeleteI took accounting in high school instead of calculus or algebra and we were allowed calculators, I think. It was over 20 years ago so I could be wrong. They were definitely banned for tests.
DeleteTrobairitz - I have trouble with it from time to time, sometimes necessitating two or three tries. Sometimes I just give up and go back later and redo the comment. Makes me crazy when this happens.
ReplyDeleteI'm with you Dar. It can get frustrating. I too just keep at it. Although I find I copy my comment before previewing so that if it disappears I can paste it and try again.
DeleteAs far as the captcha not working - that is equally frustrating but I am sure the bugs will be fixed, eventually.
na, those captcha things are confusing sometimes. relax, you're not crazy.
ReplyDeleteSometimes I have to cross my eyes to read them, but for the most part they are easy.
DeleteIt does bother me when I know I've spelled it correct and it still buggers up.
Such is life. No worries.
I havent experienced issues in awhile. But I'm usually working in Firefox on the desktop. I've just gotten the iPad, but havent experienced problems yet.
ReplyDeleteGlad you haven't been having troubles. The iPad is fun. I bought one in August last year. I find that commenting can be interesting as it will try and auto correct your captcha words. Have fun with that.
DeleteI'll never understand why I can't comment in Firefox when it works just fine for Troubadour when he is signed in. Weird.
Hmmm, sounds like we're back to option 2...
DeleteHA! I fear you may be correct Richard.
DeleteFunny. The only issue I have with captcha is the default uppercase for the first letter. :)
DeleteOooh maybe that is my issue with the iPad, I never thought about the uppercase default. I'll have to monitor this. Smart thinking Lori.
