The Rox

.
Yesterday while in Eugene returning some extra boxes of cork flooring we stopped by Discount Motorcycle Parts to pick up my new bar risers.

We figured that a 2 inch pivoting bar riser might be just the thing for making Max a bit more comfortable for me on long rides.  A little more upright and a little less pressure on my wrists.  At $81, they were cheaper than purchasing a new Bonneville T-100.

Now we just need to find the time to install them and we'll cross our fingers the cables and lines are long enough.

Oh, what's that I smell?  Breakfast is ready.  Blueberry oatmeal breakfast cake, warm out of the oven with fresh hot coffee.

(Homemade blueberry oatmeal breakfast cake and my favorite mug filled with coffee)

Mmmm must be a nice lazy Sunday morning, the best kind.

  1. Such funny timing. Oilburner and I just returned from a ride in which I was wondering how the bike would feel if I removed the bar risers. When I first brought the bike home I installed bar risers and low seat. After 2 years I went back to the standard seat. Now that I have the GS to compare to, and getting more saddle time in on more bikes, I am getting a feel for "how" bikes differ with different set ups. I remember the weight on my hands prior to the bar risers. So I am not yet willing to try again. ;) Hope you are able to install them soon. And notice as much of a difference right off the bat as I did with mine.

    1. The riding position isn't too bad on Max. More upright than a lot of bikes, but at the same time I notice my wrists/forearms hurting or I find I let go of the left handle bar so I can sit up a little straighter. I try and use core strength to hold my weight off the hands, but when going downhill on a forestry road, that isn't always easy.

    $81.00 for a T-100, I think I want one too

    1. If you find a T-100 for $81, please pick me up one too, any color will do.

  3. But the risers are a poor substitute for the T-100 you keep looking at...

    The blueberry muffin looks great!

    1. I know Richard, but the risers are so much cheaper. :-)

  4. The blueberry breaky cake looks DELISH! Would you mind emailing me the recipe? I'm always looking for a good recipe.

hope the risers work for you and make you more comfortable. I rode my hubs 750 to night, wow that was a rocket ship. I like the comfy ride, but I prefer my 500's handle bars. I think I need to test drive a Bonnie and a few other bikes just to know the difference. I tried a Ninja in my riding class, but didn't care for the forward sitting with all the pressure on my wrists. I say buy the Bonnie! Kiwi_Deb had a hankering for a Gladius.

    1. I don't know if you'd want that recipe Dar. It turned out quite heavy. I think the recipe needs some tweaking, but I'm not sure what. My regular blueberry muffins taste better and are lighter. I was thinking that to myself as I ate it -I should have made muffins, lol.

I had a Ninja once. I didn't like it either. It was a 650 and I felt it was quite top heavy too with the fairing.

How much liquid was in that blueberry oatmeal recipe, did you add oil or milk ? Did you use Frozen Blueberries ? I think you have too much liquid in there. Try about a third or so, less liquid and add a bit more flour. You could also try a "pinch" extra of baking soda to add more air bubbles (ie = lighter)

    4. You did reply Bob. It is right above your comment. I think the liquid was about a cup of soy milk. No oil - I used applesauce which makes it heavier, but healthier and used whole wheat flour - again, makes it heavier. And the blueberries were frozen. We picked them last year and froze them. I have one small bag left. Good thing it is only a few months until blueberry season.

  5. I love my risers. Of course, I bought a Connie which is built for people with genetically deformed spines. The riding position had a detrimental effect on my back and my love life. (I'm sure you can understand how that works.) Risers helped SO much. Still I could easily replace the bars for something better. But $100 instead of 1000? Oh yea. No brainer. I hope yours do at least as much.

    1. Everyone I talk to sure enjoys their bar risers. I guess that is why they are made - there is a need. I can imagine the lean angle on your connie without risers. Our friend Rick has a ZZR 1000 and his bars are low and really leaned forward.

    2. Yeah, they changed my life. The first 800 miles (in one day) in the first week I owned the machine were... stiff. Hope yours make your dreams come true!

    1. I'm always looking at a Bonneville. I've always really liked them but the price of new is a deterrent and it is hard to find used ones in these parts.

    1. Ha funny stuff. I like that...... blueberry kawasaki, lol.

Motorcycles and food just seem to go together for me. We always ride somewhere and eat or snack so it works.

  9. The Rox Risers look like a nice bit of kit. Would like to see them fitted on the bike. I have a mate with a Gladius and he is a bi tlong in the tooth and might like a more upright seating position. Well, he is 83.

    1. They looked nice but unfortunately as everyone will find out in a follow up post, they didn't work because the speedo and clutch cables weren't long enough. I could see how one would want to be more upright at 83. Good on him for still riding though.

  10. Whenever I see a Bonneville I think of you and Sonja. It's a good thing.

    Good luck with the risers!
