A Lotus Comes to Coffee

And by Lotus, I mean the car, not the blossom.

Our friend David, of the Ford GT 500 fame bought a Lotus a few weeks ago and we got to see it up close and personal at coffee on Saturday.

I let David know I thought it was might nice of him to buy a Lotus in blue to match my bike.  If I'd ridden to coffee I would have taken a pic of the two together.

Brad was the only one at coffee that got to sit in it and make vroom vroom noises.  He's lucky that way.

(Almost out)

(David heads home before the rains arrive - the Lotus matches that Connie too)

We haven't been doing much riding lately.  Our weather has been waffling between sunny for 20 minutes and pouring down rain for hours.  It has been really hit or miss.

Until Monday, then the skies cleared up and the weather warmed up.  Yesterday it was 80˚F (26.66˚C) at 4 pm when I got home and today it is forecast to be 88˚F (31˚C).  Unfortunately it won't stick around for the weekend.  By Saturday and Sunday the rain is forecast to return along with the 59˚F (15˚C) weather.  Not cold by any means, but not always fun to ride in the rain.

Basil turned 9 on April Fools Day and just takes life and the weather in stride.  He alternates between napping on the sofa.....

....... to laying on the dining room floor waiting for some canned food to arrive in his bowl so he doesn't have to resort to dry food.

He looks ready to starve doesn't he?

  1. The Lotus is sweet, but Basil is sweeter. His colors are like Mui's and these photos make me want to hold him and squeeze him :*^)

    1. Basil isn't much for posing but I can catch him every once in a while. I'd pick him up and love him for you but he only tolerates it for a few seconds.

    1. Hmmm, wonder if David had the keys in it, me thinks not.

  3. Trobairitz:

The Lotus is more of something that Troubadour would wear, instead of drive. Such a tight fit for him

we sort of have the same weather that you have except a few degrees cooler. Summer weather all week . . until the weekend arrives

    1. He said it wasn't too bad getting in, but there sure isn't much room in it.

  4. I was picturing Roland in that Lotus. He might have gotten in, but would have needed the jaws-of-life to get out of that play thing. Isn't there something about fast cars and... well, compensation of sorts?

Anyway, I am with Martha on this, sweet Basil is stealing the show, as usual.

    1. I was thinking shoe horn, but jaws of life is probably more accurate. Our tall friend Bob went for a ride and he said it took two tries before he could get folded right to get in the passenger side.

Basil always steals the show. He is just too stinkin' cute.

  5. They look small. Hard to get in and out of? Sure looks fun either way though!

  6. I love the Lotus, but it IS British, which explains the need for the permanent tow hook attached to the frame in front. :-)

    1. I was thinking that was the wind-up key to start it. Or a pull start like the old toys.

  7. I guess you could have taken the top off to simplify getting out. Cars like that seem to be easier to get in than get out. Of course, I'm sure that you could have demonstrated how to do it gracefully.

I don't think our cat has ever had canned food...

    1. Me graceful? You know I am a klutz right?

Basil used to get canned tuna as a treat for coming in when we called. But the salt isn't good so we switched to some grain-free wet food from Weruva. Hard to stop with the treats once you start. Sigh. Damn cat is entirely too spoiled.

  8. That car (and the Ford GT) looks like almost as much fun as a motorcycle! I wouldn't kick it out of my garage if it showed up...

I hope your weather starts behaving soon! I finally got out riding last weekend, and the weather promptly turned awful again.

    1. Can't be as much fun as a motorcycle, can they? How fun could they be if you aren't required to wear a helmet?

We won't get more consistently warm and dry weather until June or July. Usually after Independence day.

  10. Love the Connie! The Lotus is not too shabby either but has a few too many wheels...

    1. And it is a new Connie too. He just traded his old one in, not sure why as I think it was fairly new too. I like the blue though.

  11. That car looks even more uncomfortable than my R1. At least you can easily get off the R1. Looks like Brad nearly needed help to get back out of that thing.
Andrews right, its got too many wheels.

    1. I am sure it is more uncomfortable. At least you can stretch out a leg while on the R1. Brad said that you'd need narrow shoes as there wasn't a lot of room around the pedals.

He didn't need help, but it may have been close. :-)

  12. That Lotus is almost affordable... maybe not!

    1. It cost more than all of our bikes and Subaru put together, but a lot less than his GT 500 cost him. I think that beast cost more than our house.

    1. Thank you about Max, and I would have to agree about our weather. Raining cats and dogs last weekend, 88-90˚ on Wednesday and Thursday and back to 50 degrees and rain forecast for this weekend. Ick blah.

  15. those sports cars are hard to get out of
ya need to pour yourself out of them [i had one similar years ago]

the last pic needs the caption

does this coat make me look fat

    1. Yeah, Basil is kind of giving me the stink eye in that last picture. I like your caption idea though.

I am still trying to figure out how he gets his back foot under his head for a pillow like he has it in the first pic. One of his favorite positions, but it looks so uncomfortable.

  16. Mate of mine had a little Lotus like that. I remember getting in and out was like getting in and out of the bath.

  17. Sorry to ear about your riding weather, but hey, it's not everyday you get to see a Lotus up close and personal. It looked smaller than I thought it would be. I bet it would be fun to drive.

Hopefully the weather will improve and you can get a photo of your bike and the Lotus. I'd like to see that.

    Cheers,

    1. It wasn't very tall at all especially sitting beside our Subaru.

In true Oregon fashion it rained Sunday and proceeded to be sunny Monday, Tuesday and today and the rains are due back tomorrow throughout the weekend. Sigh.

  18. Oh, wow. That's a gorgeous car. I bet that would be FUN to drive. :-)

    Love the Basil shots, too.

    1. David really seems to be enjoying it so far. I too think it might be fun to hit the twisties in it.

Basil doesn't really like his picture taken, but can be tolerable when he needs to be.
