Stayton-Jordan Covered Bridge

I took quite a few pictures of the Stayton-Jordan covered bridge in Marion County on Tuesday as well as several at the park where it rests.

I thought I'd share.

(Oh, and more pictures of bikes too)
This bridge is also known as the Salem Power Canal covered bridge.

The bridge has quite a history , to learn more click this ----> LINK.

The bridge is located in a beautiful park setting.  When standing in the middle of the road you can look one way to this view:

(Someone must be irrigating the park - such nice green grass)

And look the other way towards the bridge.

While Troubadour was setting up the tripod for the kissing montage I wandered a bit and took some photos of the park and it's inhabitants.

(Majestic trees and a lonely bench)

( There were a lot of old growth trees in the park)

(View out the side of the bridge)

(Another view from the bridge)

(Over the bridge looking across into the park)

(There were about a dozen or more Mallard ducks swimming around)

(You can just barely see the bikes parked at the other end of the bridge)

From here we saddled up and meandered our way west across the Willamette Valley towards Corvallis and home.

  1. Trobairitz, gorgeous pictures, love the ducks.

Years, and years ago my wife and I went rambling in the countryside here in search of covered bridges. None were in the tip-top shape of that one. Then again, I don't think any of ours got the TLC that bridge got.

    1. This one is in great shape because they had to re-build it due to fire. Although I am impressed at how well preserved most of them are around here.

  2. This is a beautiful bridge and indeed in good shape, probable because it is for pedestrian use these days?
I love the picture of the park bench and the big trees with the sunny spots. Very nice atmospheric shot.

    1. Yeppers pedestrian use only. That is why we couldn't get the bikes any closer. There is a really nice walking path to it and when you get over it walking paths into the woods and over the other little foot bridge into the park

  4. Trobairitz:

It looks so peaceful there. I think I would like to just have lunch, relax and do nothing for a few hours looking at the ducks. I am also drawn to those large tree trunks .

    1. It would have been great to have lunch there, but we'd already eaten. It sure was pretty. Fairly quiet too as it is a little off the beaten path.

  5. Nice photos. Covered bridges are neat. Reminds me of the one I saw in Madison Co. Iowa about 3 years ago. Looks like a great place.

    1. Hubby put up the kissing montage. He is way more creative and imaginative than I am.

  7. So close yet I've not visited the Stayton Jordan Bridge. I do remember the bridge in it's original location outside of Scio. like the grove of trees. So majestic and serene. One of the reasons I love our forests is scenes like this.

Very nice series of photos of the bridge and park. It makes me want to pay a visit and do some exploring.

    1. We'd only ever driven through Stayton and not taken any side streets. Well Meg and I did the 5k in Satyton but we didn't really do any exploring.

I really was interested to see where the walking paths went but it was almost dinner time and we have full gear on.

  9. Cool history of the bridge. Isn't it fun when people decide to rebuild? I really like the image of the bridge with the sun flare.
