Well, it has been a few weeks now since I purchased the Kawasaki Versys 300x. Unfortunately I haven't been back on the bike since.
The week after my initial ride, I had a lower wisdom tooth and molar pulled that went dry socket. Not good for putting on a helmet or when cold air blows in. It has finally healed enough to get back on the bike.
While in dental misery riding-limbo a few things arrived for the bike. The dealer initially forgot to order the hand guards and center stand, but after a friendly reminder phone call from Troubadour, I was able to pick them up on Saturday.
We also ordered some Oxford heated grips from Revzilla. Thank you to those that reported how well you were enjoying yours. When ordering, Troubadour noticed that the adventure ones would be too large so he ordered the sport version instead. I have only ever had the grip heaters that fit under the stock grips so this will be new to me.
Now we just need to find the time to install everything. Troubadour was teaching a Team Oregon class all last weekend and he works overtime this Saturday. I am sure we'll find time soon.

One of the other things that has occurred in the last week or two is that Max went to his new home. I am sure Jeremy will treat him well. He seemed quite pleased and plans to keep it for a long time.

Springtime has finally arrived in Oregon. While we still have more rain than we'd like, at least our temperatures are warmer. Here is a picture of our Crabapple "Royal Raindrops" that is blooming in the front yard. Such a pretty time of year. Even with the clouds, the blooms make our days brighter.

I can sympathize with dry socket pain, had that when I had my wisdom teeth extracted.
ReplyDeleteThe heated grips are on my farkle list and will get getting them at some point. Right now I am hunting a disc lock, some cars were broken into at work in the parkade and I would feel safer if they just couldn't roll it away.
Max's new friend looks very high viz!
Luckily it was just one wisdom tooth - the lower left and adjoining molar. I had the upper left wisdom and molar pulled about 20 years ago and that was easy peasy.
DeleteDisc locks are a good idea. I've often wondered about them as well.
Commiserations re the wisdom tooth. My dentist is always wanting to pull mine out. Damn these evolutionary throwbacks!
ReplyDeleteI still have two wisdom teeth left, and they aren't getting those!!
DeleteOuch, wisdom tooth extraction, you have my full sympathy, Brandy. Toothache and cold wind is never fun. Looking forward to your farkelisation process.
ReplyDeleteBrad is working overtime this weekend, but maybe Friday or even Sunday we'll get some things installed. We did get the adapter for the Givi rack so I have the tail bag/trunk installed. Baby steps.
DeleteI don't know about the US, but most of the pain from dental work in NZ is in the wallet! Good to hear it's healing well.
ReplyDeleteExciting times buying farkles! Hope that the new grips keep you toasty. Our weather is starting to cool down a bit and it will soon be time to break out my heated gloves for the longer hauls into cooler parts of the country.
Love your crabapple - simply gorgeous. Does it actually fruit too or just decorative?
Luckily we have dental insurance though Brad's work. The extraction still cost more than my motorcycle accessories though, but only about 1/6th of the price of my last dental bridge I had replaced on my front teeth.
DeleteOur weather is just heating up. Finally an 80˚F (26.6˚C) day today and of course I am stuck in the office.
The crabapple is decorative. And the color is true, not enhanced, they are bright magenta flowers. We do see little knuckle sized decorative fruit and the Robins come and eat them all. Circle of life, feeding the birds.
I look forward to hearing how the bike works. 300cc is such an interesting category these days. Teeth come and go bikes leave a mark...(Im not suffering my own tooth pain at the moment).
ReplyDeleteThere seems to be more bikes appearing in the 300cc category. I think it is a good thing.
DeleteTeeth leave a mark too if you bite hard enough, lol. :-)
My wisdom teeth (and perhaps some of my wisdom) are long gone so all I can remember is feeling really crook after the general and throwing up on getting home - nice picture?
ReplyDeleteCool to see the farkles arriving and can't wait to see more of the bike in action.
Oxfords for the win! Contemplating on replacing the ones on the Connie as they're getting a little work after 140,000km - still working perfectly though!
Luckily I didn't get sick after getting my teeth extracted, but maybe because I did it with just a local numbing. And I am tough so I refused all pain meds and just used over the counter Aleve (Naproxen) instead.
DeleteI too want to see more of the bike in action, lol
Its been a long time. Funny, but I saw a Gladius the other day and thought of you. Enjoy the new ride.
ReplyDeleteHello from across the pond. Thanks for thinking of me.
DeleteI was thinking letting work interfere with farkleing is just wrong, but working is preventing me from riding. That will change shortly!
ReplyDeleteGood to hear Max went to a good home. I love Stella's heated grips when I remember to turn them on.
I think we can all agree that work is overrated and we'd rather be out riding.
DeleteMy hands get chilled pretty quick (poor circulation) so I don't usually remember to turn the grips on.
Ugh, dental work. Scarlett, my foul weather rig, has the Oxford Heated grips, you'll love them though I wish the buttons were a bit easier to press with gloves on. The grips were transferred from Valencia, my 2011 rig so you can see they last a long time as well. On max setting, they get so hot I have to actually lower the temperature or it feels like my hands are burning.
ReplyDeleteGood to know your Oxfords have lasted so long. I am used to a toggle witch to turn grips on and off so getting used to the little buttons will be interesting.
DeleteNice selection of initial farkles. I think I would've had a hard time leaving it in the garage. Isn't Newport on the way to the office?
ReplyDeleteThat would be quite the loop to get to the office. Some days it might be preferable to a straight shot through campus though.
DeleteYep, they are still farkles if they get you excited to see them and install them and play with them. :) Sorry to hear about the wisdom tooth!! Gotta be hard seeing it sit in the garage, do you go out and moon over it in the evenings?
ReplyDeleteI don't moon over it. Just haven't bonded that way yet. I do go look at it, does that count?
DeleteUgh... Back in 2010-ish when I had all four of my wisdom teeth yanked, I was very worried about dry socket--the general discomfort was plenty for me.
ReplyDeleteI agree with BeemerGirl: If you're excited about it, it counts as a farkle. Farkle on, Trobairitz, farkle on...
Farkle level I achieved. Or is it Level II, I am not sure what the levels are. Givi top box is on, center stand, grips, and hand guards were all been installed on Friday. A big thank you to Troubadour for that. I am very spoiled to have an in house farkle installer. Will install for beer.
DeleteGlad you're feeling better! Those are great farkles and I can't wait to hear how you like them and the bike!
ReplyDeleteOh and that tree is spectacular!!!
Thanks Lynne. Hoping to test the bike out soon, but our rains return tomorrow, just in time for the weekend.
